Maintaining security and privacy over time

An overview of how the security and robustness of the platform will be maintained over time, especially considering there will be multiple volunteer contributors working on it

The Voluntarily platform is designed to provide a secure, stable and private, long-term service to the people that use it: teachers, volunteers, activity and resource providers and the groups that support them.

Secure: The platform and underlying database are resistant to malicious attacks that seek to interrupt the service, steal or corrupt information, or otherwise damage the system.

Stable: The platform operates in a consistent and performant manner with usable features that operate as intended, few or zero interruptions to the service. The platform can support expected levels of usage and traffic and can adapt to peaks in usage.

Private: Information about individuals using the platform is not exposed except where required to carry out the functions of the platform.

Our challenge is to achieve these goals and maintain them over time while making use of open source contributors and keeping our codebase publically available. Each is important and the same strategy applies to all.

The starting point is to ensure that the underlying architecture of the system is based on good current practice.
